TCA Peel
In the race against time, often Chemical Peel offers one of the most effective and long-lasting treatments for fine or coarse wrinkles of the skin--usually on the face. A Chemical Peel may also be used to treat uneven skin surface as a result of scarring acne or small skin growths. Our physician-strength TCA Peel may also be desirable if you have areas of hyperpigmentation (age spots).
A Chemical Peel is intended to give the patient a smoother, youthful-appearing skin of more uniform color.
The procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis in Santa Barbara under local sedation and local or general anesthesia. The superficial layers of the skin are removed by the chemical ablation. The advantage of the laser is that the depth of treatment is extremely controlled and predictable. The TCA Peel also tightens the skin somewhat.
You will be sent home with specific written instructions. Depending on location, the treated areas are usually covered with ointment. The treatment postoperatively will prevent formation of a crust or scab. Healing will be complete in 7-10 days. Redness (pink color) will usually last from 1?6 months. Makeup can be worn once healing is complete (7-10 days).
Other facial procedures such as blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), facelift, rhinoplasty, cheek implants, etc. can be performed at the same time.
This procedure is considered cosmetic and therefore is not covered by insurance. The patient is responsible for payment. The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are rare.
Z-Peel

The Z Peel is derived from the mucor miehei mushroom from Japan and works by enzymatically breaking down the dead layers of skin and revealing the younger healthier skin beneath.. Unlike alpha and beta hydroxy acid or TCA, the Z Peel performs microscopic cell-by-cell targeted exfoliation that works with the skin's own pH. There is no blanching or hyper/hypopigmentation because unlike the other peels, this peel shuts off as it achieves a balanced pH in the skin. Intact skin has a different pH than calloused, dead skin and the Z Peel is formulated to work only on the skin areas that need it. Other acid peels burn randomly through cells with no target sites. They can leave you with scaling, clumping of tissue and discoloration. The Z Peel is safe for all skin types and is truly a "one size fits all" product.
