Many patients believe that the expertise and safety with which anesthesia is delivered is just as important as the expertise of the plastic surgery. At Aesthetic Surgical Partners, we utilize ONLY board-certified anesthesiologists rather than Nurse Anesthetists, commonly employed by many other plastic surgery offices. By utilizing residency-trained physicians rather than nurses to deliver your anesthesia, we believe that our patients receive a higher level safety and finesse when it comes to your anesthesia.
We also only use state-of-the-art anesthetics and patient monitoring equipment at our Santa Barbara plastic surgery center. In fact, Dr. Hestrin administers 7 different intravenous anti-nausea medications and 3 different pain medications before you even awaken from anesthesia to ensure that post operative nausea and discomfort are negligible, if at all.
The majority of our surgeries are performed under general anesthesia by design. While it may seem counterintuitive at first, general anesthesia in most cases is actually safer than IV sedation or 'twighlight anesthesia' in that lack of patient movement during surgery is assured and that all physiologic systems such as respirations, heart rate, and blood pressure are under the direct control of the anesthesiologist, allowing him/her to optimize surgical conditions for the plastic surgeon. Through this optimization of anesthesia conditions, Aesthetic Surgical Partners of Santa Barbara is able to advance the quality of your surgical result even further.
